piavita recently raised a low 7-digit amount from a consortium of investors that includes the online investment platform investiere.ch, Zürcher Kantonalbank (ZKB) and BAS. Private investors hailing from the investiere community contributed CHF 275’000 to this financing round. Furthermore, Daniel Ammann (co-founder of u-blox), Daniel Schmucki (CFO of the Zurich Airport) and Yves von Ballmoos (former owner of the design furniture store Zingg-Lamprecht) have joined piavita’s board.
piavita, a finalist of this year's W.A. De Vigier Entrepreneurship Prize, has developed a small-sized wearable device with which veterinarians can precisely measure an animal’s vital data (like heart rate and sequence, pulse pressure and body temperature) through felt and skin. Unlike existing solutions, which are expensive and bulky, piavita allows continuous data measurement without placing the animal under stress, thus producing more reliable data. This constant monitoring of the animal enables an unprecedented level of data quality and quantity, thus opening the animal healthcare market to a wide range of big data applications.
piavita is initially targeting the multibillion dollar race horse and small animal (dogs/cats) healthcare markets with a solution that is cheaper and better than the competition, and also opens new revenue streams for veterinarians.
